Best Apps to Watch TV in Puerto Rico It was exactly what I was looking for when I moved here.
After all, even though we love exploring the island and enjoying the local beauty, there are times when all we want to do is relax on the couch and watch something good, right?
At first, I admit it was a bit frustrating. Some apps I used before didn't work properly here because of region restrictions.
Others simply had very few local channel options.
But after a lot of testing, I found some solutions that really work, with good quality and an incredible variety of channels.
So, if you are also on this quest, let me show you the apps that worked for me.
Canela.TV – The darling among free apps
First of all, if there is an application that positively surprised me, it was Cinnamon.TV.
In addition to being free, 100% has a very interesting selection of content in Spanish, including news channels, soap operas, cooking shows and even movies.
Because it is designed especially for the Latin American and Hispanic audience in the US and the Caribbean, it works really well in Puerto Rico.
And the best part is that you don't even need to create an account. Just download and start watching. Oh, and it supports Chromecast, which makes it much easier if you want to play on your TV.
Furthermore, the interface is very easy to use and even with ads, the experience is very smooth.
I usually let it run while I prepare dinner or on lazy weekends.
Pluto TV – For those who enjoy variety and live channels
Another app that has become my daily companion is PlutoTV. It's also free and has dozens of live channels, plus a library of on-demand movies and series.
What I like most is that it offers channels by theme: news, sports, entertainment, reality shows, and even cartoons.
So, there's always something interesting going on, even when I don't feel like choosing anything specific.
In fact, local news channels are great for those who want to stay up to date with what's happening in Puerto Rico.
And of course, there's plenty of content in both Spanish and English, which is great for those who like to switch between languages.
DIRECTV GO – When you want a more complete experience
Thirdly, if you are willing to invest a little, the DIRECTV GO can be an excellent option.
I used it for a few months and found it to be worth it if you want a more cable-like experience, with local Puerto Rican channels, live sports, movies, and premium series.
The app has a free trial (at least when I downloaded it), which helps a lot to test it before subscribing.
And the catalog is really robust with channels like WAPA, Telemundo PR, Univisión and others that are part of the routine of those who live here.
Plus, you can watch on multiple devices at the same time, which is great if you share the account with family or friends.
Tubi TV – A nice surprise for those who like movies and series
Although it does not have live channels, the Tubi TV It deserves to be highlighted because it offers a very cool collection of films and series, all free and with good quality.
It works super well here in Puerto Rico and has subtitles available on a variety of content.
Often times when I want to watch something different without worrying about paying or logging in, Tubi is my first choice.
It has everything from old classics to some interesting new releases, and the best part: no credit card or annoying registration required.
Personal considerations
In the end, it all depends on your style. If you are looking for the best apps to watch TV in Puerto Rico and prefer not to spend anything, Canela.TV and Pluto TV are unbeatable.
Now, if you want more premium channels and don't mind a subscription, DIRECTV GO delivers a very complete experience.
And even if you're just passing through the island or living there for a while, you can put together a good combo with these apps and guarantee hours of entertainment.
