The 5 Types of Curiosity

Not everyone knows, but there are several types of curiosity and science has already stated this many times that this is something that brings several positive points. Taking as an example:

  • Raises energy: describing a day when the person felt curious shows that it increases physical and mental energy by up to 20% more than talking about experiences of great happiness.
  • Improves intelligence: In one study, very curious children, ages 3 to 11, scored up to 12 higher on intelligence tests.
  • Improves performance and engagement: students who study psychology, when they felt more curious earlier in the day, who enjoyed their classes more and had even higher final grades, according to research.

And this information was pointed out by four specialists in education and psychology, in an article in the Harvard Business Review.

In this way, based on new discoveries of science, the group created a model in which they talk about five types of curiosity, check it out below:

1- Social curiosity

Social curiosity is about listening, talking, and watching others to see what they're doing, thinking, and more.

Human beings are very communicative animals, and the most efficient way to tell if someone is a friend or not is by obtaining information.

2- Sensitivity to deprivation

That kind of curiosity is simply noticing a gap in knowledge.

In this case, “filling in” the gap, or understanding, is a form of relief.

That kind of curiosity doesn't exactly feel good, but people who experience it work tirelessly to solve problems, say scientists.

3- Look for emotion

This type of gossip is based on how willing a person is to take social, physical, and financial risks to have more intense types of experiences.

People with this curiosity tend to increase their anxiety about news, not decrease it.

4- Happiness in exploring

An example of this type of curiosity are those people who love to know impressive places. It's when you get pleasure from seeing something impressive for you.

5- Stress tolerance

This kind of curiosity is basically that kind of people who take it easy and enjoy the anxiety associated with the novelty.

People who do not have this skill see information gaps, often experience wonders and end up being interested in supplementing knowledge.

Advantages of different types of curiosity

To better understand the benefits, an intense series of research was carried out in the United States.

The aim was to find out which one has the best results and what are the peculiar advantages of each one of them.

“Happiness in exploring”, as an example, presented a stronger point in the way of intensely experiencing positive emotions.

Already "social curiosity" has a connection more with kindness, generosity, among other things in common.

In studies on “stress tolerance”, the part is more focused on the pleasure of the need to feel better.
